We are proud to announce that Jay Trautman has joined Odie as editor.

Editing is one of the most defining stages in the life of a film. It is where rhythm is discovered, emotion is refined, and the shape of a story becomes fully clear. For a film like Odie, that process matters immensely. This is a character-driven feature that lives and dies on tone, point of view, and emotional honesty. It needs an editor who understands restraint, momentum, and how to let a film breathe while still carrying the audience forward.

Jay brings exactly that.

He joins Odie with an impressive body of work across some of the most respected films of the past decade. His credits include editorial work on One Battle After Another, Dune: Part Two, Oppenheimer, Licorice Pizza, and Her, a run of projects that reflects both technical precision and strong storytelling instincts.

That background makes him an exciting fit for this film. Odie is not a movie built around noise or excess. It is built around human behavior, difficult circumstances, and the fragile dignity of someone trying to make it through one long day. The editing has to serve performance, environment, silence, humor, and pain without ever forcing the material. It has to feel invisible when it should and deeply intentional when it matters most. Jay’s experience on films that balance intimacy with scale gives us real confidence in what this next stage of the process can become.

What makes the addition especially meaningful is that Odie depends on the accumulation of small moments. The film asks the audience to stay with its lead character closely and honestly, which means the cut cannot simply move the plot along. It has to reveal character. It has to preserve texture. It has to know when to linger and when to press forward. That kind of editorial judgment is not easy to find, and it is a major reason we are so excited to have Jay on the team.

As Odie continues through active pre-production, bringing Jay Trautman aboard marks another major step in building the film with the right collaborators. Independent filmmaking is always a process of alignment. You look for people whose instincts elevate the material and whose taste helps define the final form of the work. Jay is exactly that kind of collaborator, and we are proud to welcome him to Odie.

More updates will be shared on the team, the process, and the road ahead. Alongside this casting announcement, we’re also sharing an early-look poster that offers a first glimpse at the visual world and tone of the film. We’re proud of what is taking shape and excited to keep building it in public.
