We are proud to announce Dean Allen Stanfield in the lead role of Odie, the upcoming feature film currently in active pre-production.
Casting the title role in Odie was always going to matter. This is a film that depends on the humanity of its central performance. The story asks an audience to stay close to one man’s experience, to walk beside him through exhaustion, isolation, quiet absurdity, and the stubborn dignity required to keep moving. That kind of role cannot be carried by surface-level charm or performance tricks. It needs truth. It needs presence. It needs someone who can make a character feel lived in from the moment he appears onscreen.
Dean brings that and so much more...

From the beginning, there was something undeniably honest about what he could bring to Odie. He has a grounded, soulful quality that pulls you in without asking for attention. There is emotional weight in his presence, but also restraint. He understands how to hold pain, humor, fatigue, and humanity all at once, which is essential for a character like Odie. This is a role that demands vulnerability without sentimentality and strength without performance. Dean has the rare ability to live in that space naturally.
Odie is not built around spectacle. It is built around observation, tone, character, and emotional authenticity. The film lives in the quieter corners of Austin and in the overlooked realities of the people moving through it every day. At its core, this is a story about survival, dignity, and what it means to keep going when the world has made very few accommodations for your life. To make that story land, the lead performance has to feel immediate and real. Dean gives us that foundation.
His casting comes at an exciting moment in his career. Dean was recently named a 2025 Just For Laughs New Face in the stand-up category, a recognition that speaks to both his talent and the growing momentum around his work. That honor reflects what makes him so compelling as an artist in the first place. He brings originality, instinct, and a point of view. Even more importantly, he brings a human quality that cannot be manufactured. For a film like Odie, that matters more than anything.
Dean is represented by Gersh Agency, with Alyssa Urgo, and managed by Authentic Talent and Literary Management, with Allen McRae.

For our team, this announcement marks an important step forward as Odie continues to take shape. Independent films are built piece by piece, through conviction, collaboration, and the right people finding the right material at the right time. Bringing Dean into the lead role is one of those moments. It sharpens the identity of the film and gives the project an anchor that feels both creatively exciting and emotionally true.
As Odie moves deeper into pre-production, more updates will be shared on the team, the process, and the road ahead. Alongside this casting announcement, we’re also sharing an early-look poster that offers a first glimpse at the visual world and tone of the film. We’re proud of what is taking shape and excited to keep building it in public.
Today was supposed to be the first day of the rest of his life. Welcome to the team, Dean! -Nick & the Odie Team
